Your data stays
yours.

The short version

Mentora does not create accounts, store personal data, or share anything with third parties for advertising. Camera frames are processed in real-time and never saved to our servers. Your sessions live in your browser — not ours.

What we collect

We collect the minimum necessary to make the app work. Here is exactly what that means:

Firebase & Firestore

Session history — the messages, subject, title, and timestamps from your tutoring chats — is stored in Google Firebase Firestore. Each session is tagged with your anonymous device ID so that only your device can retrieve it.

We do not store your name, email, or any personally identifying information in Firestore. Sessions are associated only with a randomly generated device ID that has no connection to your identity.

You can delete any session from within the app, which permanently removes it from Firestore. Clearing all history removes all sessions associated with your device ID.

Firebase is a Google product. Data stored in Firestore is subject to Google's Firebase privacy terms in addition to this policy.

What we don't collect

Google Gemini API

Mentora is powered by Google's Gemini API. When you use the app, your inputs (images, text, audio) are processed by Google's infrastructure under their own privacy terms.

We recommend reviewing Google's Privacy Policy and Gemini API terms for information on how Google handles API data. API inputs used through our backend are not used to train Google's models unless you separately opt in through Google's own products.

Local storage & cookies

We use localStorage to save your anonymous device ID, theme preference, and UI settings. Session content itself is stored in Firestore (not localStorage), so it persists even if you clear your browser cache — though clearing your device ID will disassociate you from your existing sessions.

We do not set any cookies. Third-party libraries (Google Fonts, cdnjs, Firebase) may set their own caching headers but do not track you across sites for advertising purposes.

Children's privacy

Mentora is designed to help students of all ages. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Because no accounts are created and no personal data is stored on our servers, the app is designed to be usable without providing any personal information.

Parents and guardians can review and clear all local data by clearing browser storage for this site.

Data security

All communication between your browser and our backend uses HTTPS with TLS encryption. API requests to Google are made server-side — your Gemini API key is never exposed to the browser.

Because we do not store user data, there is no user database to breach.

Your rights

Since we don't store personal data, there is nothing to request, correct, or delete on our end. To exercise any rights under GDPR, CCPA, or other applicable laws with respect to data processed by Google, please refer to Google's privacy controls directly.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of Mentora after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
